World AIDS Day 2009

On December 1, 2009 the world and its citizens will be collectively celebrating World AIDS Day. Many AIDS patients have stories to tell the world. AIDS has not been forefront in the medical community lately. This is because many people now think of cancer when they think of deadly diseases.
There has been much progress made in the treatment of AIDS in spite of there being no vaccine or cure yet for the virus. There are new medications for AIDS patients so that many patients can live a fairly normal life. There still need to be strides made to find a cure because AIDS suppresses the immune system and any infection can become deadly very fast.
World AIDS Day works to educate the public in general about the true facts about AIDS. Many people still do not understand how the virus is spread from person to person.
AIDS impacts millions of people all around the world. There is still no cure for this deadly virus but there is hope for a cure in the future. AIDS continues to be spread even though people are educated about safe sexual practices.
People suffering with AIDS sadly still live with a stigma. Many young children have had AIDS since birth. Some HIV mother can spread the virus to the children during childbirth. These children are often ostracized in school because other children think that they will catch AIDS from the child if they play together. This stigma is very untrue because AIDS is only spread through exchange of bodily fluids such as blood and semen.
People all around the world can get involved in campaigns to help spread AIDS awareness. People can accomplish this by donating money to charities that deal with funding AIDS research, pass out leaflets to raise awareness, sell red ribbons to benefit AIDS charities, and write to local politicians about AIDS programs in your community.
It is very important to raise awareness about AIDS. Anyone can contract it so the world needs to come together and try to do whatever they can to eradicate this deadly virus.
On December 1, 2009, think about how many people are suffering from AIDS and try to so something to help the cause. Changing the world takes time, but every little step counts.
