Slow Down the Aging Process with Healthy Fat

Submitted by Mensvita on 02/04/2010 No Comment |

fishoilIn some ways it’s easy to see the body age, but there’s more than just what’s outwardly visible when it comes to the aging process. It starts deep within cells. In our cells are chromosomes and on the end of those are telomeres. When cells reproduce the telomeres get a bit shorter each time.

The shorter the telomeres get, the harder it is for your cells to produce more cells, and the more your body appears to age. Not only do these telomeres shrink on their own but they’re also affected by your lifestyle. Major stresses for telomeres include worrying, smoking, a sedentary lifestyle, and belly fat.

Studies have shown that there are a few ways to rebuild these telomeres with things such as meditation, lots of exercise, and various kinds of stress reduction. There’s even been evidence that omega3 – fatty acids slow down the rate of telomere shortening. The omega3 is from EPA and DHA found in the healthy fat of fish.

To help yourself in preventing such illnesses as wet macular degeneration, joint arthritis, and memory deterioration, it’s recommended that you take 2000 mg fish oil of DHA and EPA. Or if you’re a vegetarian, 600 mg of DHA (which comes from algae).

Do be careful with the EPA as it is known to thin blood.
