Part 3: Cosmetic Surgery as an Anti-Aging Method
The ideal of beauty of our time is driving strange methods. The seekers of beauty are no longer just women. Even men are lured by the cosmetics industry. Whoever wants to be young must possess model dimensions.
Each year, millions are caught in the cycle of bulimia and anorexia. Even the drastic self-harm that results from eating disorders is not as bizarre as the notion of going under a knife to attain beauty and youth.
Previously only the beautiful, rich and famous could afford plastic surgery. Now also ordinary people are found in the waiting rooms of plastic surgeons. Women and men now use surgical methods of enhancing beauty, such as liposuction and nose correction.
Botox injected by a doctor is a favorite method used particularly by women. Botox is a poison which renders the nerves paralyzed, reducing the appearance of wrinkles.
Examples of unsuccessful interventions abound, and include Mickey Rourke, Michael Jackson and Priscilla Presley. A closer look at these celebrities reveals what devastating effects excessive cosmetic surgery can have.
Despite such examples, plastic surgeons around the world continue to make a good living performing plastic surgeries to correct the so-called physical shortcomings and consequences of aging.
