Exercise Increases Risk of Osteoarthritis

beine2A new study conducted by the University of California, San Francisco, found that people who exercise too much when they reach middle age raise their chances for developing arthritis.

Swelling of the different joints in the body can be very painful and those suffering from arthritis may find it hard to get around. There are drugs available to those suffering from this type of pain that help alleviate symptoms.

The study was conducted on 136 women and 100 men who were all considered healthy at the time of the study. Both groups were over fifty and exercised regularly. The study was to determine increased risk of osteoarthritis of the knee.

The study found that those in the group that exercised more often showed greater symptoms of osteoarthritis than those who exercised less often.

Osteoarthritis affects up to 27 million people in America and is the most common type of this disese in middle aged people.
