Exercise and Fitness Over Fifty

Nowadays, more and more people want to stay healthy and fit, and live a vigorous, long life. Sometimes this is more difficult for the over fifty generation, especially if they have not been active their whole lives.
When a person reaches fifty years old, it may not be quite as easy to stay fit. Sometimes, especially in the elderly, limited mobility can make it harder to participate in physical activity and keep their bodies in shape.
A popular sport for the young and old alike, is bicycling. This popular sport strengthens muscles and joints and cuts fat at the same time. No matter your age, it is recommended you wear a biking helmet when biking to prevent head injury. It is also highly advisable to see a doctor before engaging in any exercise or sport.
Another sport recommended for people over fifty is swimming. In swimming, many muscle groups are addressed and the cardiovascular system is strengthened. Swimming movements can be slow, and swimming is not a weight bearing exercise, so it is not as hard on the joints.
If you have problems seeing in water, wearing goggles may be helpful. Hiking is also a good sport for those over fifty. There are many beautiful, natural places to hike, many parks have walking paths, and hiking can be done at your own pace. In general, it is possible for nearly everyone to become more fit, which can aid in leading to a longer, more productive life.
