Submitted by Mensvita on 01/18/2010 No Comment |

rotwein_einschenkenResveratrol has gained popularity as an anti-aging cure as well as a healthy substance that can be used to prevent cancer and heart disease. Resveratrol has been marketed as a way to slow or diminish the physical effects of aging including reducing the appearance of wrinkles.

Resveratrol is found naturally occurring in the skin of red grapes. Red wine has received a boost in popularity because it has been touted as a healthy drink that can help combat age related illnesses. Researchers from prominent drug companies Amgen and Pfizer decided to put the anti-aging claims to the test.

Both groups of researchers did not have the anti-aging results that are often used as a marketing technique for the medicine. The Amgen report has been published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry. The Pfizer team noted the use of resveratrol did not activate the SIRT1 protein that is responsible for causing aging symptoms. The Pfizer report is published in Chemical Biology & Drug Design.

There are numerous other studies being conducted to determine the effectiveness of resveratrol in the treatment of a number of other health problems.
