6 Steps for the Six-Pack

Submitted by Mensvita on 06/18/2009 2 Comments |

man_towelEverybody wants a toned stomach with a six pack to turn heads but getting there isn’t as easy as it sounds. To help with your quest though, the top 6 steps for the six-pack are outlined below.

1. Lose your excess weight.
Unfortunately the fat around your stomach is often the last to go when you try to lose weight but when it does your natural abs start to show through quickly. Everybody has a six pack, even women, but in the majority of cases it’s well hidden below tummy fat. You need to perform fat burning exercise routines to combat your excess pounds before trying to tone and shape your abs – otherwise you’ll never see the results.

2. Forget the millions of sit-ups and crunches.
Although sit-ups and crunches do help to tone your stomach muscles, they are only part of the six-pack toning process. Doing thousands each day will eventually have the desired result however the muscles around your six pack will still be as untoned as they ever were. In order to really make the most of your six pack you need to perform integrated muscle toning exercises which don’t just focus on the select muscles that make up your six pack. There are plenty of ways to tone the entire area including through the use of stability balls and yoga.

3. Cross train in order to tone.
The best way to ensure quick development of a six pack is to cross train. This means you should include weight training, aerobic exercise, stretching and resistance work in your weekly workout routine. By doing this you burn fat and tone your stomach muscles at the same time.

4. Decrease your carbohydrate intake.

Carbohydrates are known as ‘empty calories’ and they are used primarily as an energy source for the body. Decreasing the amount you eat means that the fat you eat is used as an energy source in preference…and if fat is used by the body then it isn’t available to sit around your stomach.

5. Eliminate other empty calories.
You take in a lot of empty calories through drinks as well so watching what you drink can also help to keep your weight down and your six pack looking good. Soda drinks, fruit juices and even some types of coffee are very high in sugars and these should be avoided. Try sugar free drinks or a piece of fresh fruit instead.

6. Balance your hormones.

Stress can cause your hormones to become unbalanced and this in turn can slow down your metabolism. A slow metabolism burns calories ineffectively and you may put weight on rather than lose it. Try to destress your life and increase your metabolism so that the calories you do ingest don’t turn to fat.

Stick to the 6 steps for the six-pack above and you’ll quickly see the benefits of your hard work.
